Established on April 19, 2009, RFC Märjamaa embodies the spirit of camaraderie and passion for rugby. What began as an impromptu decision by a collective of local boys, sparked by glimpses of rugby on television, was shaped into a concrete vision thanks to the determination of Rainer Koppel. It was Rainer who envisioned the official establishment of RFC Märjamaa as a club. With his foresight and relentless effort, he orchestrated the framework that brought everything together, laying the groundwork for what RFC Märjamaa is today. Rainer's indispensable role and his dedication to making rugby accessible to all were pivotal in giving birth to this club. Though assisted by others, he stands as the driving force behind our club's existence. Rainer Koppel's influence extends beyond the rugby pitch; he's a revered figure in our hometown, known to many, and his legacy resonates through the fabric of our club's history.

The genesis of our club's name, "Märjamaa Vikat," reflects our humble beginnings rooted in the small country town of Märjamaa where our rugby journey commenced. The word "Märjamaa" simply signifies the town that became the nurturing ground for our club's inception. As for the term "Vikat," translating to scythe in English, it mirrors our playing style characterized by robust runs and unwavering commitment to formidable tackles. We unite as one in training, revel in the joy of collective play, and epitomize the essence of camaraderie both on and off the field.

Our inaugural venture into competitive rugby emerged just a few months into our formation when we proudly participated in the Estonian Beach Rugby Festival, stunning everyone with a remarkable second-place finish. It was a defining moment that solidified our belief in choosing the uniquely shaped ball.

Since 2009, RFC Märjamaa has graced numerous prestigious competitions, including the Estonian Beach Rugby Festival, Estonian Championships in Olympic Rugby, Uudeküla Snow Rugby Tournament, and the Baltic Rugby Cup to name a few. Through highs and lows, the club has established itself as a formidable force in Estonia's rugby landscape. As of the time of writing, the club proudly boasts 11 national titles, with one in rugby union XV side and an impressive ten in Olympic rugby. Notably, nine of these championship titles were secured consecutively, a testament to our dedication and resilience.

RFC Märjamaa stands proud not only for its collective achievements but also for the individual brilliance of its members. Several of our players have earned the honor of representing the national team, showcasing their exceptional skills on a grander stage. Beyond national representation, many of our talented players have been sought after, both domestically and internationally, with several being recruited by esteemed clubs within the country and even finding opportunities abroad. Their journeys serve as a testament to the caliber and talent nurtured within the ranks of RFC Märjamaa, underscoring our commitment to fostering not just a formidable team but also nurturing exceptional athletes with a passion for the sport.
