RFC Märjamaa started with local people, one rugby ball and a simple idea: the game could have a home here.
It became a club, a community and a lasting part of Estonian rugby.

WHO WE ARE

A RUGBY CLUB WITH MÄRJAMAA AT ITS CORE.

RFC Märjamaa is a small-town rugby club built on loyalty, hard work and the enjoyment of playing together. We welcome people who are ready to learn, contribute and become part of the group.

What began as an improvised local idea became one of Estonia's most successful rugby clubs. The results matter, but so do the people and the small-town character behind them.

01 / THE BEGINNING

ONE IDEA BECAME A CLUB.

RFC Märjamaa was formally established on 19 April 2009 after a group of local boys became interested in rugby. Rainer Koppel turned that interest into a real club and did much of the work needed to get it moving.

The idea began with rugby videos on YouTube and a group willing to try something new. Rainer organised the first steps, brought people together and made rugby possible locally. Many others helped, but his drive was central to the club's creation and remains an important part of its history.

02 / WHY VIKAT?

A NAME SHAPED BY HOME AND PLAYING STYLE.

Märjamaa is where the club began. Vikat means scythe, a name that suited the early team's direct running, committed tackling and willingness to work for one another.

The name joined the town to the way the early team played: physical, straightforward and collective. Over time it came to stand for more than a playing style. It became a shared identity for the people who trained, travelled and built friendships around the club.

03 / THE FIRST BREAKTHROUGH

SECOND PLACE. FIRST PROOF.

Only months after the club was formed, RFC Märjamaa entered the Estonian Beach Rugby Festival and finished second. The result gave the team its first sign that the idea could become something lasting.

Facing established teams and leaving with a runner-up finish turned curiosity into confidence. It was the first result that made the club feel real and gave the players a reason to keep building.

BUILT LOCALLY. PROVEN NATIONALLY.

RFC Märjamaa has competed in beach rugby, Olympic rugby, snow rugby, Rugby XV and Baltic competitions. Club players have also represented Estonia and played for teams at home and abroad.
